Hellcliff (/hellcliff/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large Town located in Kumeyu̽ Bachi Kingdom, Qodtian County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Hellcliff is derived from the Sylvin language, as Hellcliff was founded by They Naudain, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Hellcliff has a yearly average temperature of 26°C (78°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 31°C (87°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 21°C (69°F). Hellcliff receives an average of 140 cm/y (55 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Hellcliff covers an area of nearly 7 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 5588 m (18333 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Hellcliff was founded durring the late 18th century in early summer of the year 1680, by They Naudain. The establishment of Hellcliff was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed They Naudain struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Hellcliff as a prison colony.

Hellcliff was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 18th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Hellcliff is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Hellcliff is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of premissive packed earth streets which form octogonal paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks, spikes, and fences to provide some protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. Hellcliff's minimaly adiquite are suffering from significent damage, so much so that examples can be pointed to no matter which section one might have within their line of site, and most of which render sections inoperable at present.

A look around Hellcliff gives you a feeling of distrust and paranoia. Also greed. Hellcliff has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Hellcliff's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Hellcliff possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Large Town. Hellcliff's grid is powered by mana accumulators.

Hellcliff's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Hellcliff has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Hellcliff's natural decorations nor waterways.

Hellcliff has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Hellcliff has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Hellcliff has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Hellcliff's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by order, symmetry, formal design, grandiosity, and elaborate ornamentation. Architectural characteristics include balustrades, balconies, columns, cornices, pilasters, and triangular pediments. Stone exteriors are massive and grandiose in their symmetry; interiors are typically polished and lavishly decorated with sculptures, swags, medallions, flowers, and shields. Interiors will often have a grand stairway and opulent ballroom..

The Gravebound near Hellcliff are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Hellcliff's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves performance art to channel Summoning energies of tier 1 via divine sermons.
